State of New York Department of Agriculture and Markets
NYS PD # 1026 — Licensed Since 2016
While we were not planning ANY mating/litters until the Fall of 2017 at the earliest, we applied for and earned our NYS PD License (#1016) in 2016. Since then, we continue to apply, pass our yearly “on-site” Vet and NYS Inspector visits without fail nor violations.
The primary goals of this program is to ensure that dogs (and cats) are properly cared for, have adequate and humane housing, and receive veterinary care by the breeder. It is also a safety net for buyers; record keeping by the breeder MUST show that ALL information concerning the animal's health, medical history, and origin are transfer to the buyer or its agent at the time of possession of the animal by the buyer! No breeder in this NYS Licensed Program will ever 'forget' or 'misplace' any of your puppies records or delay transferring them to you without repercussions and accountability !
Breeders, like us, selling LESS the twenty-five dogs/cats per year ARE exempt from "mandatory" NYS Licensing. Most NYS breeders do NOT apply for this additional protection for the consumer. There is a ton of paperwork, 'surprise' inspections, and more accountability for the breeder to the buyer and the State of New York. BUT one Dam can whelp more than 9 puppies in a litter, and as of 2016, we have THREE young females being raised, trained/titled, and health tested for breeding!! Should all three breed in any given year, or we add an additional Dam to our program in the upcoming years, we would be in violation of NYS Laws & Regulations!! We cannot have that, so our License is Proactive rather than Reactive.
As a family we decided to spend the time and effort on obtaining this license well over a year before breeding. THIS gives our buyers one more reason to be confident in our commitment to the TOTAL Doberman. It also creates and maintains as of (06/2016) public record and accountability of our medical records and on-site conditions WELL before we were actually open for the public to come and see our dogs, puppies, home and records!!

OFA - The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
The OFA's objective and mission is to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through reductions in the incidence of genetic diseases.
The OFA has four specific objectives:
(1) To collect and disseminate information regarding orthopedic and genetic diseases of animals
(2) To advise, encourage AND establish control programs to lower the incidences of orthopedic and genetic diseases
(3) To encourage and finance research in orthopedic and genetic diseases in animals
(4) To fund and make grants to carry out these objectives.
The OFA Databases are the core to the organization's objective of establishing control programs to lower the incidence of inherited disease. Responsible breeders have a moral obligation to breed healthy dogs. The OFA offers Tests by Breeds for ALL companion animals as well as Certificates. Results are maintained in their extensive data base and available for viewing and verification on their website of compliant breeding dogs.

CHIC - The Canine Health Information Center
CHIC is a centralized canine health database sponsored by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). CHIC, working with DPCA, provides a resource for breeders AND owners of purebred dogs to research and maintain information on the health issues prevalent in the Doberman (and others) breed by establishing a recommended protocol for breed specific health screening and recognizing dogs tested in accordance with that protocol.
CHIC also maintains a DNA Bank that collects and stores canine DNA samples along with corresponding, genealogical, and phenotype information to facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited diseases in dogs. ALL Doberman owners are encouraged to participate in the DNA repository to ensure the health and longevity of our future Dobermans and their owners!!!!All the Dobermans in our breeding program have submitted their DNA swabs and health surveys and will continue to update CHIC yearly to ensure we are doing our part to research and preserve the health of tomorrow's Dobermans as well as our own!!

DDP - Doberman Diversity Project
In our ongoing promise to ourselves and our breed, we have enrolled our pack in Doberman Diversity Project (DDP). By submitting our Dobermans' DNA swabs to DDP, we are supporting: Doberman Health Research, contributing to research into the pros and cons of breeding for Genetic Diversity, testing DNA for common Doberman Genetic Diseases, and much much more as this project grows, develops and expands. Partnered with Embark, the DDP is in the beginning of what we all hope will be positive and scientifically proven methods to greatly reduce the many issues that plague our breed. Our involvement and participation with and in this program allows us to be on the ground floor of this emerging project as well as to hands on access to the advances and answers they find for ALL of the Doberman breed!!
