While we were not planning ANY mating/litters until the Fall of 2017 at the earliest,
we applied for and where given our NYSPD License (#1016) in 2016.
*
The primary goals of this program is to ensure that dogs (and cats) are properly cared for, have adequate and humane housing, and receive veterinary care by the breeder. It is also a safety net for buyers; record keeping by the breeder MUST show that ALL information concerning the animal's health, medical history, and origin are transfer to the buyer or its agent at the time of possession of the animal by the buyer! No breeder in this NYS Licensed Program will ever 'forget' or 'misplace' any of your puppies records or delay transferring them to you!
*
Breeders selling LESS the twenty-five dogs/cats per year ARE exempt from "mandatory" NYS Licensing.  Most NYS breeders do NOT apply for this additional protection for the consumer. There is a ton of paperwork, 'surprise' inspections, and more accountability for the breeder to the buyer and the State of New York.  BUT one Dam can whelp more than 9 puppies in a litter, and as of 2016, we have THREE young females being raised, trained/titled, and health tested for breeding!!  Should all three breed in any given year, or we add an additional Dam to our program in the upcoming years, we would be in violation of NYS Laws & Regulations!!  We cannot have that, so our License is Proactive rather than Reactive.
*
As a family we decided to spend the time and effort on obtaining this license well over a year before breeding.  THIS gives our buyers one more reason to be confident in our commitment to the TOTAL Doberman.  It also creates and maintains as of (06/2016) public record and accountability of our medical records and on site conditions WELL before we were actually open for the public to come and see our dogs, puppies, home and records!!

Better safe than sorry!!!

As a part of AKC's century long commitment to advance the health and welfare of all dogs, the AKC has a new program called Bred with H.E.A.R.T.  The program gives AKC a new way to engage, encourage, and recognize ALL breeders who meet specific health testing standards and who participate in continuing education through courses offered by AKC Canine College.  Clink on the Link below to learn more about the specific commitments that an AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. breeder makes to the health and well-being of their dogs.

Doberman Fields' proudly has all our dogs dual registered with AKC and UKC.

Every dedicated and caring breeder needs a veterinary practice just as committed to the health, wellness, care and love of their dogs as they are.  We are blessed to be in the care of one of the most respected and well-known practices in our area, Dr. Evans, Dr. Stillman and Dr. "Jack", along with renowned LVT Janice Cocks, VA Katelyn Miller, Office Assistant Jess Harris and the rest of the staff treat all our animals, as well as us, as part of their family.  Whether in the office or during on site kennel care and inspections, we are in the capable hands of over 20 years of experience and knowledge. They give their all to help us keep our pets AND breeding dogs in optimal health and up to date with all breeding health tests. Not only breeder experienced, but Doberman owners on staff as well, we couldn't have found a better medical team to watch over our pack and make sure we are constantly in step with existing and new research and information to improve our breeding program.

CHIC - The Canine Health Information Center,

*also known as CHIC, is a centralized canine health database sponsored by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), CHIC, working with DPCA, provides a resource for breeders AND owners of purebred dogs to research and maintain information on the health issues prevalent in the Doberman (and others) breed by establishing a recommended protocol for breed specific health screening and recognizing dogs tested in accordance with that protocol.

CHIC also maintains a DNA Bank that collects and stores canine DNA samples along with corresponding, genealogic, and phenotypic information to facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited diseases in dogs.  ALL Doberman owners are encouraged to participate in the DNA repository to ensure the health and longevity of our future Dobermans and their owners!!!!

All the Dobermans in our breeding program have submitted their DNA swabs and health surveys and will continue to update CHIC yearly to ensure we are doing our part to research and preserve the health of tomorrow's Dobermans as well as our own!!

OFA - The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals

The OFA's objective and mission is to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through reductions in the incidence of genetic diseases.  The OFA has four specific objectives:

(1) To collect and disseminate information regarding orthopedic and genetic diseases of animals
(2) To advise, encourage AND establish control programs to lower the incidences of orthopedic and genetic diseases
(3) To encourage and finance research in orthopedic and genetic diseases in animals
(4) To fund and make grants to carry out these objectives.
*
The OFA Databases are the core to the organization's objective of establishing control programs to lower the incidence of inherited disease.  Responsible breeders have a moral obligation to breed healthy dogs.  The OFA offers Tests by Breeds for ALL companion animals as well as Certificates and results maintained in their extensive data base and available for viewing and verification on their website of compliant breeding dogs.

OFA, working with the CHIC, and adopted by the DPCA, has a clear and concise requirement of Breed Tests and qualifications for responsible Doberman Breeders

VetGen
*
As the pioneer in canine genetic disease detection services, VetGen's mission is to improve the health of ALL purebred animals, by providing informative and valuable services to animal breeders, owners, and care providers.  Using DNA analysis, they are able to accurately and specifically determine whether or not our Dobermans carry disease causing genes for vom Willebran Disease (vWD), Dilated cardiomyopathy discovered gene 1 and 2 (DCM) (DCM2), and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) as well as Narcolepsy.  They also offer us the ability to Color Coat Test our Dobermans. B Locus tells us if the Doberman carriers the gene to produce a red coat puppy, and the absence of D Locus ensures we have no dilutes in our breeding.  Using their services helps us obtain reliable identification of these diseases to ensure we have a successful breeding program and healthy litters. All our DNA samples are swabbed and collected by our vet, and submitted to their lab for processing.  VetGen is an OFA approved lab and offers the option of having the lab submit your results to OFA on your behalf.  They offer minor discounts on selected services, and have daily "phone in order" discounts.  Not JUST for breeders, VetGen is a valuable contributor to all Dobermans' current and future heath and longevity.

VetNostic Laboratories
*
VetNostic Laboratories offers state-of-the-art genetic testing services for dog breeders AND dog owners. Using DNA analysis, they are able to accurately and specifically determine whether or not our Dobermans carry disease causing genes for vom Willebran Disease (vWD), Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).  They also offer us the ability to Color Coat Test our Dobermans. B Locus tells us if the Doberman carries the gene to produce a red coat puppy, and the absence of D Locus ensures we have no dilutes  in our breeding.  They do not, at this time, offer the newest DMC2 testing for the recently discovered second disease causing gene.  Using their services helps us obtain reliable identification of these diseases to ensure we have a successful breeding program and healthy litters.  All our DNA samples are swabbed and collected by our vet and submitted to their lab.  VetNostics is an OFA approved lab.  They offer a multiple test discount, AND their website provides a Certificate Authentication Tool to help verify a breeder's listed results.  Not JUST for breeders, but for all Doberman owners, VetNostic Laboratories is a valuable contributor to all Dobermans' current and future health and longevity.

Suzannes Dog Training
*
Suzanne believes that there is no "one way" to train a dog and there are definitely some behaviors that are nonnegotiable.  EACH dog is different, and what works for one dog may not work for another.  She believes EVERY dog needs an owner that is a calm confident leader.  She works with every dog and client, taking each training experience a step above..to not only learn and practice new skills and behaviors, but to also focus on strengthening the bond and team between dog and owner to ensure a successful and rewarding experience for BOTH!! Suzanne offers first time evaluations so she and the client can find the best way to achieve their individual goals and leave with a plan of action AND things to work on.  Suzanne also offers: Private Sessions, Group Classes, and In-Kennel Training.  Her current list of Group Classes include: Beginner, Advanced, Rally, Competition, and CGC/CGCA/TDI classes.  Suzanne is able to work with our entire family, from grownups all the way down to our nine-year-old.  She has easily developed "teams" for the benefit of our Dobermans AND humans to get the best training AND team experience!  Her experience with canines and humans, as well as her desire to see each of our pack reach its full potential is evident in the personal time and attention each of us gets.  Her love of animals shines as she interacts with our Dobermans in such a loving and focused, up front and hands on manner!!  It's clear to us that she is no stranger to Dobermans, temperaments, and difficult family schedules we present her with!!  We are looking forward to earning our CGC's for Chaser, Diamond, and Crystal under her guidance and training, and are excited to see where she takes each of us next!! There are even plans in the works for Jim and Jewel to begin training with her, AND to add Max to our list of CGC earners!! Be sure to visit her website for a list of current classes, training locations, and much more!

DDP, Doberman Diversity Project,

In our ongoing promise to ourselves and our breed, we have begun to enroll our pack in Doberman Diversity Project (DDP).  By submitting our Dobermans' DNA swabs to DDP, we are supporting: Doberman Health Research, contributing to research into the pros and cons of breeding for Genetic Diversity, testing DNA for common Doberman Genetic Diseases,  and much much more as this project grows, develops and expands.  Partnered with Embark, the DDP is in the beginning of what we all hope will be positive and scientifically proven methods to greatly reduce the many issues that plague our breed.  Our involvement and participation with and in this program allows us to be on the ground floor of this emerging project as well as to hands on access to the advances and answers they find for ALL of the Doberman breed!!
